How we compare prices
Last updated
Matching the exact bottle
Perfume prices only make sense when compared like for like. We treat each combination of fragrance, concentration (for example Eau de Toilette or Eau de Parfum), size and packaging (retail box, tester, unboxed, refill, sample, gift set) as a separate product. A tester is never compared against a boxed bottle.
We match retailer listings using barcodes (GTIN/UPC/EAN) where available, checked against the listing's own size and concentration. Listings that can't be matched with confidence go to a human review queue and are not shown until someone confirms them.
Total cost
Where we know the retailer's shipping cost to the US, we add it and compare the total. If any retailer's shipping cost is unknown, we compare item prices instead and say so. We never assume shipping is free when we don't know.
Coupons that anyone can use are included in the price we show. Coupons that need something extra (a first order, a membership, a minimum spend) are listed separately and are not used to pick the cheapest offer.
Sales tax is not included because it depends on where you live.
Freshness
Every price shows when we last checked it. Prices older than 24 hours are moved to a separate section and are never shown as the best price, used in alerts, or included in search results data.
What "best price" means
The best price is the lowest total cost for an in-stock offer, among the retailers we track, at the time shown. It's not a claim about every store. Sponsored placements, if we ever have them, are labelled and kept apart from the comparison.
Price history
We show only prices we actually observed. We say "not enough history yet" until we have at least 20 days of data in the last 30.
Mistakes
If you see a wrong price or a wrong match, email support@scentshunt.com. We check every report.
